RIVERS OF NIHIL Launch First Single 'The Silent Life'

Rivers Of Nihil

On March 16th, RIVERS OF NIHIL will release their third full-length, Where Owls Know My Name, via Metal Blade Records. Whereas The Conscious Seed of Light (2013) and Monarchy (2015) were thematically centered around spring and summer, respectively, Where Owls Know My Name represents the fall. And although that season is usually associated with death, for RIVERS OF NIHIL, the autumn serves as a rebirth.

For a first preview of Where Owls Know My Name, the album track 'The Silent Life' can be heard below.

Guitarist Brody Uttley comments: "This record is Rivers of Nihil being exactly who we want to be. Many bands get stuck in a comfortable routine of releasing the same album over and over again. Constantly relying on the same familiar formula may work for some bands, but it does not work for us. Music is art, and art is ever-changing. Without change, there is no progress. Without progress, the very fire that powers art and expression will die. This record is the sound of where we come from, where we are, and where we are going."

Adds bassist/vocalist Adam Biggs: "This time around, the lyrics feel a little more personal than on previous albums. The story picks up several millennia after the events of 'Monarchy', where one person still remains alive, chosen by the planet to be the sole intelligent witness of its ultimate fate. But 'Where Owls Know My Name' is less about overarching narrative than our previous albums. The scenario is just a backdrop for the more emotional material we tried to put forth this time around. Ultimately, this is an album about loss, getting older, and reaching a point where death becomes a much more present part of your life."

RIVERS OF NIHIL Debut Video For 'Sand Baptism'

Rivers Of Nihil

Sophomore Album Monarchy Available August 21st Via Metal Blade Records

In just under three weeks, on August 21st, RIVERS OF NIHIL will release their sophomore album Monarchy via Metal Blade Records. Today the first video from the album for the song Sand Baptism which was directed by David Brodsky (GWAR, Whitechapel, Black Dahila Murder) is being premiered below.

Lead Guitarist Brody Uttley on the new song and video: "'Sand Baptism' is a track where we purposely fused our more traditional death metal sound with the newer elements that we brought to the table on this new album. This track is a well-balanced serving of emotion, brutality, technicality, and catchiness. We really wanted to focus on writing SONGS on this record instead of just stringing riffs together. "Sand Baptism" does a great job of showing how we have evolved as a band both in a song writing capacity and also as individual players."

RIVERS OF NIHIL Debut New Video and Embark on Tour with Death (DTA Tours)

Rivers of Nihil

RIVERS OF NIHIL have launched a brand new music video clip for the song Mechanical Trees from the album The Conscious Seed of Light. The track is a stellar introduction for the uninitiated; it's a fast, yet melodic and ambient track that evokes as much groove as it does inhuman death metal speed. The performance video is an ideal illustration of the brand of musically tight and heavy hitting live show fans can expect on RIVERS OF NIHIL's upcoming tour dates.

Guitarist Brody Uttley comments: "Working with David Brodsky on this video was a truly awesome experience. This guy has shot so many of our favorite bands over the years and to be able to work with him on something for our own band was truly surreal. We are also beginning our trek out to Los Angeles where we will be meeting up with Death To All, Obituary, and Massacre. We are super excited to be touring with bands that we all grew up idolizing! See you soon."

The Reading, PA natives got in the van yesterday for a string of shows beginning tonight in Mishawaka, IN, that lead up to their tour with Death (DTA Tours)! The Swamp Leper Stomp Tour '14, also featuring Obituary and Massacre begins next Friday in Los Angeles, CA. All confirmed tour dates are listed below.
