The newer styles of metal I like to a point, but not all the way. Most are pretty good, but it always lacks something for me. Alternative Metal is one of those sub of a sub-genre that is that hit-or-miss sort of thing. Italyís Klogr
is one of those newer breed of metalheads trying something a bit different.
Sounding like what a heavier version of Alice In Chains
(something I wished AIC
had done) with a little bit of Disturbed
added in for extra flavouring, Klogr
has this addictive groove thing going on that is hard to ignore. With very clean and emotional vocals and catchy lyrics, this act seems to take pride, but the lack of energy in the vocals and seemingly over usage of one standard tempo throughout more than a few tracks on the album make it a little hard to digest.
There are some bright spots showing through for Klogr
on the eleven tracks here. While 'Live Dying' has a catchy enough feel to it, as does the more rapid attacking of 'Bleeding' the fact of the matter is, most of the songs sound very close to one another both in repeated riffs, over used stylings and that pesky tempo that gets really overused. It all seems to just mash together and comes out as one hodgepodge of music that gets very boring very quickly. The vocals, while emotional seems to weaken over the time listening, and becomes uninteresting, and you tire of it all as a whole.
has some massive talent lying just below the surface, but like the whole 90's Alternative and Grunge thing - it gets boring and cheap sounding real fast. I would like this band to bring a little old school metal into the mix, and perhaps get a real vocalist with a better range and power to knock through the wall of mediocrity. If they donít, chalk it up to another nondescript band dying off into memory.
Too bad that disappearing is what will happen here in time to Klogr
. The band has some serious talent going on here, they just need to change a few things to get to a higher level - and forget the whole Grunge era entirely. They are a metal band, they need to be a true metal band to survive.
