While power metal has never been one of my favorite genres, I've been able to enjoy some of the best from the genre at times. The Keeper Of The Seven Keys albums from Helloween are a couple of these standout releases from the genre. So I’m glad to say that former Helloween vocalist Michael Kiske’s latest endeavor is yet another solid entry to the genre.

There are plenty of melodic guitar riffs to be heard, courtesy of Kai Hansen, also formerly of Helloween and currently of Gamma Ray. Every song is catchy and has an emotional presence. Unlike other entries from the genre which breeze by without any impact, the songs here stick with you and have a powerful effect on the listener.

One advantage this album has it to make sure the songs have a rocking vibe that some of the sweet songs from other power metal are lacking. Yet there’s another reason songs like “Find Shelter” have such an appeal. The production would account for that. Light Of Dawn is indeed bolstered by a crystal clear sound. A couple of ballads are to be found, including the last track, which sound just as crisp as the straightforward storming ones. Guitar solos are quite entertaining as well. While the album does bleed with quality, for the most part, there isn't anything overly original or extreme to be found either. Playing it safe is a quality that many will appreciate for this type of music, but not everyone will. There are times when you wish the band would do something a bit more adventurous with the songs.

As far as power metal goes, however, the quality of the song-writing and musicianship is absolutely top notch. Fans of the genre will be enamored with this solid output.
