The Lion’s Daughter plays a post metal style that is very heavy in nature. The music features a similar atmospheric buildup to Neurosis’ material, but is thoroughly on the heavier side overall.

This would seem to be categorized as noise if it wasn’t for the strong mood that is conveyed throughout. This mood builds up over the course of each song and doesn’t let its grasp go. The songs here are short, but poignant in making their mark on the listener. It doesn’t take long for the power of the tracks to gain its presence over the person listening. Again like Neurosis, there is a tribal element to the band’s sound. This is due to the heavy reliance on percussion that is present here. The ability to blend the power of the riff with this backbone makes for an excellent sound. The tone of the music here is nihilistic in nature, reflecting a worldly atmosphere that would certainly be a dystopia. Songs like The Horror of Existence are very dark and reflect a band that has a negative viewpoint on things. There is an overall aura here that is strong, but not quite as effective as the one Neurosis is able to maintain during its strongest moments. This means that the band is a step down from the highest quality Neurosis material, but able to maintain their own niche through the power of their music. The overall effect is one of great impact with these songs that are like small horror shows within each other.

The dreary tone is certainly one of the high points to this album and lends it credibility. These songs have a strength given to them by the negative tone that is provided by The Lion’s Daughter. It is strongly recommended to give The Existence is Horror a shot.
