Ghost Of A Blood Tie

France Country of Origin: France

Review by JD on January 8, 2017.

Prog and thrash… that is either a very good combination or a clusterfuck waiting to happen - depending on the band. I have heard it done flawlessly where the music is bold and hard hitting, and done so very disengaged and wholly crappy. I have a prog/thrash act from France called Elvaron in my hands… we shall see what side of the scale these guys land on.

Exuding a wild combination of Dream Theater musicianship, with a coupling of an offshoot of Overkill thrashy crunch that is colored with a jazz styled attitude set in a metallic framework - Elvaron seems to be a beast all to itself. This band is hard to pin down, but one thing is for sure they are stellar musicians who are creating their own path in music.

Love the power Elvaron has with every note which powers through the speakers, but no so much the vocals. Songs like 'Silent Windows' and 'No Town of Mine' are amazing pieces of music that have emotion and power, but the vocals end up very monotonous and barely stay in key. The results are that this might have made a better instrumental album. All songs here are like this, and that is where disappointment sets in.

Musically, this band scores almost off the charts, but the weak almost non-existent vocals brings it down like a meteor… one that crashes and burns in a hail of fire and ash. Sad states of affairs when such great musical talents is mired down by one of their own that they actually picked. It happens more than what you think, but it still is crappy when it does.
