Alkaloid have a complex sound that is difficult to imitate and now shows them as a leader in the death metal genre.† The band has definitely made some efforts to sound even more interesting and it shows through on Liquid Anatomy.† There are a number of shifts in dynamics that are even more significant than the last album and show the band progressing nicely.†

One can sense from the grand majesty of the title track, for example, that Alkaloid have some tricks in the bag and arenít just a regular death metal outfit.† That song has some nice acoustics and gradually becomes more interesting and chaotic.† It is only one of many stellar moments to be found on this disc.† The band sounds sort of robotic like Cynic and this is a nice comparison because this band has taken hold of death metal much like Cynic did on its first two albums.† There are still some clean vocals which recall Cynic again and make for a nice contrast to the harsher segments.† Itís the endless variety that this album displays that makes it such a stellar work.† The band has enough innovative ideas to differentiate themselves completely from the pack and stick out like a sore thumb.† Is this album perfect?† No, it isnít.† The experimentation makes the recording drag at times and itís not a perfect experimentation.†

Still, what has been created by the band is some of the more interesting music of the year and it should be cherished.† The constant bending of the metal formula leads to the jaw dropping a few times even if the music could be slightly more cohesive and well constructed.† Alkaloid have developed their sound nicely now on two albums and take one of the spots at the head of the death metal genre.
