Good cd, but it is more of a progressive theme based rather than death metal. Great musicians but a tad too much prog prog proggin going on for a pure metal head to sink his teeth into. As a prg cd,it blows Dream theatre, into obvilion etc, but I am still not convinced this is a true death metal record and perhaps should not be in Metalbites. A growler does not automatically make a cd Death Metal. |

So an album has to be a death metal album to be on Metalbite? Eh, I'd check the site again... MetalBite has everything metal - prog, death, thrash, goth, hardcore, grind, doom, power, etc.
All in all though, I agree with most of what you said, Soul, this album has some ass-kickin' musicians, but the progginess of some of the vocals gets in the way of this being a superior album.

FINALLY a metal album that evokes questions, lyrically it moves you to see the singers delima. He obviously belives in god yet cant give in to the everyday temptations. Unreal musicians with some quality music. A must have for any christian metal fan wo the powermetal vocals. Very moving cd, a must have! |

Mercenary is the soundtrack to everyday life. 11 Dreams kicks ass because the music leaves your mind numb with the hypnotic music and the lyrics are thick but clearly auditable. The lyrics are powerful, a soul defining conversation of consiousnesses that is always present on your soul.
Listen to Mercenary. Lose yourself in the music where nothing else exists and know you have found yourself. |

Simply put; this cd is brilliant!!
Mercenary have created something I feel is very much their own.
This disc will not disappoint fans who have a broad appreciation of different styles of aggressive music.
That being said, if you are looking for straight death, look elsewhere; if you are looking for straight Brainstorm/Evergrey progressive fare, again, look elsewhere.
If you are however looking for a cd that works on all different levels with a unique blend of the aforementioned you NEED THIS OFFERING!
This cd sounds incredible, and amazingly over the top in spots and understated and subdued in others.
It transcends being contrived as their is musical continuity from beginning to end despite the varying styles the band plays.
At times I found myself banging my head and raising the metal horns in salute, then I found myself singing the melody and playing air guitar to the solo passages.
Infantile yes; justified? you bet \M/
It is tough to describe another band that I have heard recently that has captured my attention the way these guys have.
This band is def firing on all cylinders, drums, vocals, riffing, guitar passages, excellent song structure and most importantly, diversity without being shlocky.
I have no idea why this band is not huge right now.
This cd is brilliant from beginning to end.
Great pacing, solid song structures, deathy growls, pyschotic screams, dynamics, tasty guitar solos, hooky melodies.
If you dig this stuff go buy this cd.
It is a diamond in the rough.
9/10
