An absolute PEACH of an album 10/10, pure godlyness. :)

Akerfeldt and company, when beginning to start writing material for this album must have thought: How the fuck can we top Damnation/Deliverance.
No really, how can any one top their previous albums? how does one make another sublime piece of art as Blackwater Park?
The answer: One doesnt.

Ghost Reveries is one the best albums of the year if not the best album. And this is me, who never liked a song stretched over 8 minutes. And yet, it can not hold a candle to their masteries of old.

Akerfeldt is a musical genius of our times. One of the most underrated musicians in the whole industry maybe. And with a supporting cast like the Opeth line up one would define them as psuedo-modernistic poetic geniuses. The art of songwriting and masterful rapture-inducing heavy melody is just too perfectly put together. And they have done it so often, that it makes the album itself sound almost mundane compared to the usual Opeth standards.
songs to look forward to more than the others:
* Hours Of Wealth
* Beneath The Mire
* Isolation Years

damm best album by Opeth. It's the best theres no dount. Even if it requires more listens than their other jobs. Per Wilberg from Spiritual Beggars does an excellent job here as well too. It gives the album a 80's air in some way, definitelly a refreshing way. There are masterpieces as The Baying Of The Hounds, Ghost Of Perdition, Bebeath The Mire(with a litlle of Led Zeppelin at the beggining). There are Porcupine Tree "infections here in Atonement. I say "infection" because of the haunting feelling. Open you sensors you can feel everything in this album. But its dificult to get into. Theres an amazing ballad Isolation years. There is only an experimantal song here The Grand Conjuration. I could describe it as a prog/black mix. Pure perfection as well. Theres also the amazing Harlequin Forest that begins with melodic guitars and clean vocals and goes on with alil more complex structure. Theres also a point that sounds like the opethian black metal vibe!!!. Finally hours of wealth relaxes you as much as death itself can relax you. Lol relax you wan't die. Buy it right fuckin NOWWW!!!!! ;)

since i started following them with the morningrise album,i always thougth that OPETH will be one day the greatest metal band in the world.and each album kept going on the direction of success,the only thingh the band needed was a masterpeice"GHOST REVERIES"...let me resume it in a few word:magic,psychedelic,poetic,dark,violent,angelic.
in one word:godly.

Am I the only one out there that just doesn't get all the excitement over this band? The growls are one dimensional, the music is ok, but these aren't my biggest gripes. The thing I find most annoying is that the songs are just too long. Now, I know most will just say I am not smart enough to listen to songs this long and maybe they are right, I dunno. But do they really need to write an 8 minute song when 4 of that is just repeating the same music over and over? I tried, I have really tried to like this band, but I can't. There are some catchy things about the music, but as for all the praise it gets, in my opinion, it's just not warranted. But like I said, that's just my opinion. If you like it, listen away, but me, I'll pass.

I can totally feel you man. Could you believe me if i'd say it took me 1 year to get into Opeth? Possibly. Anyway it doesn't have to do with your smart brain or not. Anyway i finally got into Opeth when i was in the mood and from then i like Opeth in any mood, if tht helps.

I said tht this is their best before. Well its not the best but its still a fukin amazing album. You know i was listening to the album the time i said tht and you know i had gone kinda crazy. So here you go perfect but not their best. But what the hell can anyone say which is their best album? Clearly not. Because any album is different so it depends on the likes of you. Personally(being open minded) i cannot top one of their albums.

P.S. I havent heard Orchid and Morningrise yet(coz i cant fukin find them in the stores)

I must say that i didn't listen Opeth since "blackwater park"... It was hard to me to take this sound, but since i started to get into progressive stuff, i opened my mind enough to say that "ghost reveries" is the best progressive/death/thrash that i've heard 'till today. Excelent work!
