Progressive styled Rock/Metal is seriously a hit or miss sort of thing for me. It either really blows me away and makes the musician in me happy or makes me wanna run away and poke my eardrums out with an icepick. Italy’s Ravenscry now crosses my desk.... OOOH the tension.

I was sort of really taken aback by the light and sickening techno of synths at the start... sounding like a screwed up sort of Pink Floyd-ish sort of thing with a weird touches of a dance beat. As the heavy guitars come in finally, and the vocals swell and start up, I am sad to say that the music did not get any better from that forward on... frankly and to my horror, it got actually a whole lot worse. While the band has some serious musical talent with every member, not to mention that the have a singer that is not a hack and sings... the whole thing reminded me of a fourth-rate Evanescence that is trying to be a off beat Nightwish as well... it seems to be all just fluff and no power. They try to be a Technical Progressive group with a heavy edge as well, but it quickly becomes apparent that they seem to be lack luster at best while never having that so needed firm grasp of what they are trying to accomplish. If this album was a car.... Ravenscry are stuck in first gear, and none of them know how to drive a stick shift. The music through out the album just grinds and sputters loudly like a car on its last legs, or is using the wrong octane fuel... either way, the album just seems to lurch along and without any hope of it being fixed..

The tools, they have and then some.... the passion it is sad to report that they don’t. It is interesting to listen to... as the talent is right there and gleans through, but this EP clearly is better used as a temporary replacement for Muzak in your local shopping malls. They have not clearly come into their own yet... perhaps a better manager...Dunno!
