Hungary is not known for metal. At least not for me, but I think that it is fast becoming a scene that I need to keep a close eye on from now on. I have been hearing some amazing metal coming from that country with some older albums passed to me (Ego
and Fusty Soul
). And that wet my appetite making me... uh, Hungry for metal?
With members from other bands like Wall Of Sleep
, Magma Rise
brings all in a loving collaboration for the making the art of Doominess. Imagine music that had equal elements of Black Sabbath
, early Trouble
and this feeling of Soundgarden
on downers with a smattering of Candlemass
in some melodies. The result is a melody driven, somewhat up tempo Doom with a twist that makes things jump.
Eight tracks of intense and melody filled Doom are given, bold and brash with the right levels of pure heaviness. It is the coupling of their varied influences with the artistry of originality that makes Magma Rise
so good and where the members have all came from, makes it just a little better than normal. That is a bold statement but this is a remarkable band we are experiencing.
Plainly put; Magma Rise
ís album is in the class of Candlemass
ís "Epicus Doomicus Metalicus
" and Trouble
ís "The Skull
". Some Doom fans might be sceptical of the faster parts that are used but bear in my slow and heavy brethren. This is Doom, and it kicks ass. Buy it, see it, love it. I have spoken my piece... need a beer now.
