The key to a good song is the feel. Whether it is murderous intent or explosive rage feeling to hopelessness and pain - the way both the lyrics and music moves you emotionally dictates how deep the song impacts your experience. Some bands can do that, and some just fuck it right up from the first syllable.

Reveries End is a Gothic/Melodic Doom Metal outfit from the cold, far-flung wastelands of Finland. Spinning tales of darkness, bleakness and woe they begin to spin the web of their stories so as to capture us in its embrace. The try to do this, and that is where the pure and deeply felt dissatisfaction comes into play.

All three songs seem to be the exact same in most ways for Reveries End. Same sort of acoustic guitar intros, same sort of heavy plodding riffs and almost exact melodies. The remarkable vocal power of one Sariina Tani is amazing and one very inspired explosion that is the brightest spot, but it fails to lead the band into a better musical avenue. It sounds like the band has the talent somewhere, but not the ability to use them properly or they may be playing it safe in some way, and holding back. Either way, it is disappointing.

Some think that this band is one of the acts to be watching for. I personally was not moved in any way to think they are worthy even a minor mention anywhere. I just cannot grasp the reasons why Reveries End have been so hyped and heavily touted in some media like they have been, because none of what I have heard on this three song demo worthy of it.

I hope that Reveries End comes together into a complete artistic collaborative unit and make music that truly supports and accents the overwhelming talent of their star Ms. Tani, and finally deciding to use the talent that they never used on this EP to make the music that should have been done in the first place.
