Apparently Powergod comprised the album “Bleed for the Gods” in tribute to artists and bands that helped provide inspiration to their musical power metal aspirations. Some of these ‘inspirational’ bands are as follows; Manowar, Yngwie Malmsteen, Anthrax and Stryper. That should hopefully give you a rough idea of the sort of metal you can expect from Powergod.

I haven’t heard any of Powergod’s material besides this tribute album and by all accounts I’m not really sure if I want to bother to dig any up, additionally to warrant me further from looking elsewhere for my power metal is that the concept of ‘cheesiness’ is well embedded into Powergod’s brand of metal. By ‘cheesiness’ I mean that Powergod have chosen some of the worst ‘cheesy’ metal songs and complemented it with perhaps the worst ever cover art.
There are over the top covers and a perhaps a poor selection of power metal ballads that seems to come across as just as a rip off to people who enjoy metal. There are far better power metal albums out there and I sincerely suggest your dollars be spent elsewhere.

However that all said there are one or two good tracks on “Bleed for the Gods”, those being ‘Stars’ (Hear‘n Aid) and ‘Tor with Hammer’ (TNT). These are two solid tracks that will not prompt buying “Bleed for the Gods”, but if Powergod get around to releasing singles, they may be worthwhile looking up.

There is not much more you can say about this album besides that the choice of songs to cover was slightly obscure and not really what I like in my metal and I do not recommend “Bleed for the Gods” to big power metal fan, let alone general metal fan. With the smorgasbord of power metal acts that are out there, I find it nearly impossible to recommend this album.

Bottom Line: With the amount of tribute albums out there, (some of which contain good songs and some not) in combination with good power metal bands with an over saturation of power metal and general bad metal by Powergod, makes “Bleed for the Gods” impossible to recommend.
