Review by Krys on February 23, 2003.

This is probably one of the easiest reviews I had to write to date. What else could I possible write about the band that inspired generations of musicians and shaped the metal scene of the 90s that wasn't said before? Nothing, and I won't even try because Dissection is a cult, it's a big part of our history and you might not even realize that but their impact on the metal scene is one of the reasons you read this review.

Recorded in 1997 during their appearance at German’s Wacken Open Air festival, "Live Legacy" documents Dissection power, rawness and magic that surrounds this band till today. One listen and you'll understand why so many bands tried but failed to recapture their magnificence. Flawless representation of their unique black/death metal style combined with top quality production makes you wish you were standing on that field banging you head to one of the best dark tunes ever composed. Cold melodies, gut-wrenching riffs, thundering rhythm section and Jon's sinister vocals are at this same time sending cold chills and crushing your scull with precision and power.

There's no reason to go for a track-by-track description here for one simple reason: everyone knows Dissection and if you don't, have some respect for yourself and don't say it aloud. Dissection will forever stand next to the bands like Emperor, Immortal or Darkthrone that with their misanthropic vision of the world shattered the boundaries and shaped the music you listen to now. "Live Legacy" is a tribute to those who believed and kept their name alive.

Bottom Line: If there's a reason for downgrading that album it would be a fact that "Live Legacy" makes me extremely pissed that Dissection are no longer together.
