Review by Adam M on February 14, 2017.

This album is one of the more subtle I’ve written about for this site recently.  It does a good job of using acoustic guitars and otherwise to create the proper mood. The songs here are just as depressing as Katatonia, but make use of a more vibrant colour palette to craft their wares.  The music here is certainly full of passion and life.  The songs are very enthusiastic despite the rather subtle mode the band is performing in.

The acoustic guitar is the perfect instrument to use here considering the tone The Pineapple Thief is going for.  They are trying to play in a quiet mode, but there is still a heavy use of passion to bring this up to the heavy metal stages.  One could compare their work to that of Porcupine Tree, but I believe this band is more into the purely acoustic side of things overall.  It’s not all about acoustics, however, as keys and other elements contribute to this sombre mood.  The gentleness is much appreciated when someone listens to a heavy diet of mostly heavy music.  This offers a nice change of pace and atmosphere to what I’m usually listening to.  Though the music isn’t the most original on offer, it is interesting enough to keep up with its light tone.  The overall effect is a very pleasant one as this band glides through their tracks with relative ease.  The track Fend For Yourself is a highlight, but it is one of many on this disc.  There is a consistency to the songs that complements the mood of the album nicely and affirms the quality of the discs.  One might wish the band would go in more interesting directions at times, but this is a small quibble.

Your Wilderness is an album that maintains a strong feeling throughout.  It is a gem for lovers of atmospheric music.
