MetalBite Review by Adam M on 9/13/2010
This is a straightforward traditional metal offering that is done with reasonably solid aplomb. The riffs are catchy and pure sounding, making the band comparable to some of Judas Priestís material. In fact, vocally some of the higher notes registered recall Halford a lot. The singing is actually one of the stronger elements of the disc. Thereís also a slight Grunge flavor to be found here as well. Itís makes for a sound that has a reasonably authentic vibe to it.

The title track 'Dogface' is a groove-laden number that is a highlight. The next song, 'Stealing Grace' is also a very strong track. The biggest drawback of the band is that they donít quite have a compelling enough approach to make as much of an impact as a band like Priest. Despite this, Leash Law make good use of the limitations of the genre theyíre working within to deliver crisp, enjoyable riffs to the metal genre. Fans of the classics should appreciate the style shown here the most. Itís true to metalís roots, while adding that grungy touch that gives it that slight bit of appeal to a modern audience.

"Dogface" has the ingredients to be a very solid slab of metal overall. It lacks some punch that would kick it up another couple of notches, however. "Dogface" is not quite the next "Screaming For Vengeance" or "Stained Class", but it is a well-constructed grouping of songs. Itís worthy many spins from the most devoted metal listeners in particular. The band needs to expand their sound more into a singular or innovative position to distance them from the pack. I think this falls just a couple of steps short of being a phenomenal release, but remains a solid one, regardless.
