Sceptical. I looked at the cover of Rhythmafia for perhaps an hour or so sensing that this was not metal. I put the shiny disk in to the computer’s tray... it plays. Metal? Nah, not even fucking close to it.
Mixing Jazz, Punk, Funk and a little metal (very, very little)... Rhythmafia is a whirlwind of grooves and beats in the vein of Red Hot Chili Peppers - but lacks all of the talent and writing abilities the Peppers have. To the only credit I can offer up - Rhythmafia is a good collection of musicians, but there is no real bite to the album, leaving them a confused mess of music that is begging for a direction to go in.
Sounding like a cross between the Peppers and the mighty The Clash, they never get even close to the aforementioned bands. They just come across as a 106,000th rate copy of the masters of Punk/Reggae and never will be ever closer. They are not metal, they have no redeeming qualities other than being pretty good musicians and that turned me right off. They have a little catchiness to them, but the weakness of the music just make it less than even mediocre. If I want to listen to shit like this - I’d listen to AM radio, which I don’t evern listen to in the first place.
It was a waste of time for me... a big waste. Buy the collection for The Clash and leave these guys to thankfully disappear or just listen to a good metal album and that will force the memories of this album away. Either way, use this album for a chew toy for shark or use it as skeet targets and spend your hard earned money for better music or a fresh twelve pack of beer.
