Canadian metal is certainly growing and spreading its powerful music across every part of the Metal-living planet we inhabit. Bands like the Quebec based Korpius are showing the world what my country is about.... and how the hell we can rock!

Building the perfect hybrid of Black and Death Metal that also has the melodic properties of some Thrash, Korpius has made the ideal Frankenstein. Bold blastbeats and bludgeoning brutal bass riffs along with nasty and very original yet vicious vocals catapults the band into the highest order of metal elite.

Each song seems to fit well together, making it like it was a loose sort of conceptual album that really shows life - good or bad-within every word and beat it produces. I love the title track as it powers at you with complex riffs that seem to swirl and shape around you as growling lyrics weaves you into its tale. The others are equally as good, but I seem to enjoy this track a little more.

This Canadian foursome have a standout album in a sea of mediocre Death Metal I have been experiencing lately. Korpius is powerful, smart and holds this sharpened two edged blade that has both nasty melody and brutishly heavy intensity all in one package. I have some reservations on the way it was recorded - finding that it muddies in places but this album is so good that the recording only becomes a small part of a large entity.

With a better recording the next time they build an album, Korpius could very well end up being a magnificent tour-de-force metal act as they mature into a the frothing metallic monster that their evolution will dictate.
