Loch Vostok plays a nice combination of Progressive Metal and Hardcore. There are Progressive moments that recall The Ocean, but at the same time there are Hardcore breakdowns galore.

This leads to a pleasing sound that is one of a kind and very pretty at the same time as aggressive. Energetic outbursts are the norm here and take up a large majority of the playing time. The amount of variety on display is something to take note of because every moment of every song sounds drastically different. The problem is that the band is neither as good as The Ocean at their best or a Hardcore band like Converge at their best either. There is a bit of an identity crisis with Loch Vostok, but the majority of the album is well conceived and put together. The Progressive aspects typically heighten the more harsh aspects of the band and bring them to another plane of enjoyment.

The whole album is solid throughout, but I really think it’s these Progressive moments that bring everything to a different level. "V – The Doctrine Decoded" is fine music for anyone with an open mind to all types of metal. There is a lot to absorb and thus a couple listens will be necessary to get the best from this album.
