Canada is really putting out some of the best metal ever, and that is not just me saying that because I am Canadian – just listen to some. Untimely Demise, Lavagoat, Agony Spawn and along with Loremaster and Grand Master who are all putting out wicked shit right now, showing that Canada is the next bastion for all things metal.
Vile Insignia is a Blackened Death/Thrash Metal outfit from the country capital of Canada called Calgary, AB who are bent on scaring every cowboy with their explosive metallic attack out of the area. With such vicious riffs and rumbling drums – Vile Insignia is bent on melting faces with each acid laced note they throw at you. Think of a band that mixes the nastiness of Death, the attack of Possessed while adding in some brooding like Emperor… you get Canadian Metal ripping your throat out.
With four tracks on this demo it still slays. I love every blood-letting riff and constantly churning bass lines they offer up, showing how extreme metal hits you with melodies and then tries to gut you with them in the next breath. I particularly love the explosive song 'Beneath The Frozen Soil' with its melodic razors of blood-drawing riffs and maniac slaughtering drums. It is what metal should always be - brutal, gore splattered contempt of the world around us all.
There was one thing that I was not completely in love with. It was how this EP was recorded but that never stopped the looming brutality that each cutthroat note and head splitting riff brought forth. If Vile Insignia is willing to tweak the way they recorded this EP with more separation between instruments while continuing to play their material as they have been here, they will climb up to metallic dominance over all that are foolish enough to try and match up with them.
Vile Insignia… I salute you!!
