Review by Adam M on October 25, 2017.

Jag Panzer brings a strong traditional flavour to the metal formula. There is a distinctive power metal touch here, but the music has the heft of the traditional metal genre in full fledge. It has an aura that is decidedly different than Judas Priest however. Seemingly more influenced by straight heavy metal than the prog that sometimes gets into Judas Priest’s work, the music here is a molten delight. It has the metal might of a hundred giants and makes its impact likewise.

Still, I do believe there could be more originality on display as the sound of the band can get a bit generic. I still believe the quality of the music is such that people will overlook this fact and enjoy it for what it’s worth. The guitars have a huge might of steel behind them and guide this album along through every twist and turn. The vocals are standard enough sounding but complement the music nicely. The overall effect of the music is rousing. There is simply a certain amount of fun and energy that comes with the tunes and these will alleviate the feeling that it’s slightly generic. The band seems to be greatly enjoying their music and it rings through in songs that have that golden feeling to them. There is certainly a feel good approach to the songs here and they have a huge impact upon the listener. Still, one wishes for more ingenuity in the tracks as they start to sound the same even though the songs just ooze quality.

It’s also nice to have a quality traditional metal album because there is a lack of albums of this style that come out these days. The Deviant Chord is a top notch album that will appeal to traditional metal fanatics and should be checked out by most heavy metal fans.
