This album has a lot of catchy moments and is one of the best albums by the band overall. There are strong songs such as “Symptom of the Universe” and the album sticks out nicely. The music here is more psychedelic than past albums and has a great degree of maturity involved. It is still not as good as their self-titled work.
The musicianship here is solid with a good production job and even better musicianship. The instruments are clear and have a crisp tone to them that shows a band becoming more mature. There is a good feeling to the album and it has a very good sound quality overall. It is still not as well performed as something like Trouble’s s/t album.
The problem with the disc is it is not as high quality as their Master of Reality album and suffers a bit in comparison. The songs are starting to get a bit generic, even though this is their last great album. The album is still very strong and one of the better examples of doom you shall find.
All in all, I had a good time with this work and it held up nicely compared to some of their other albums. I feel it signals the end of their Ozzy-era, however and should be seen as a s significant release because it brings an era to a close. The whole thing is very heartwarming in this fashion and has a significant impact.
