This is a good album that has a very dark feel to it. It fits in nicely with the band’s discography and has a nice production job to boot. Fans of the band’s other albums will like it as will those looking for a very consistent release.
The musicianship is very good with a great deal of focus on the guitars and vocals. There are a lot of very harsh portions and this is appropriate for the style of music they are going for. There is also a consistently good production job that helps things.
The problem with the disc is that it borrows from earlier albums and doesn’t do anything new and this results in it being less impactful than some albums like Close to a World Below. People looking for an innovative release will be left wanting as this is not as new sounding as some of their more innovative releases.
The overall feeling I’m having with the album is that it is very solid and has a lot of good songs like "Our Savior Sleeps”, but isn’t as impactful as their other albums. The overall effect is to have a great impact on the listener. The result is another great album in the band’s discography, but perhaps not their best.
Overall: 7.4 out of 10
