Review by Anna on July 25, 2010.

This is the first true album of Mine[thorn], self-described as "bio mechanical disturbance metal". Yes, that it is. It can also be described as absolutely crushing, apocalyptic Godflesh-worship with an expansive, texturally-rich, layered sound that immerses you entirely. "Junk Hive Noir" has a loose yet palpable presence, like that of giant rainclouds rolling lowly overhead. The songs are hard to tell apart, making this feel like a mind-altering journey rather than, an "album". With its emotionless and apathetic tone, this would make the perfect soundtrack for one embarking on a terrorist plot, or the ruthless unleashing of cruel and unusual punishment.

The album does feel a bit monotone, but such is the psychology of "Junk Hive Noir". I do feel though, that some psychotic vocals would make for an excellent enhancement of what's already here, cutting through the murkiness without changing the soul of the music.
