This album is revolutionary to the metal genre because it combines aspects of grind and death metal to form an interesting new concoction. The music here is aggressive and brutal and has a very dark nature on it. The album goes along with Necroticism as being revolutionary albums in the death metal genre. It is complex and interesting and features a good amount of variety.
In terms of musicianship the album is a very strong and features grind type guitars that have a large amount of reverb to them and fulfill their lofty promises. Jeff Walker’s vocals and solid, yet certainly a step down from what is to be found on Necroticism. Drums are pounding and form the backbone to the music.
In terms of flaws, this album is not a revolutionary as Necroticism and takes a step down from that work. This is a nice album and still very dynamic compared to a lot of grind metal. It is not as nicely produced as Necroticism and the guitarwork is not as interesting as that album either.
In conclusion, this is a very strong album from the band and perhaps their second best effort. It could be improved and lacks a solid production job. There is still a very memorable nature to the album and it is very good.
