This is a pretty good album that sees Neurosis delving into a newer territory that is unfamiliar and interesting. It still sounds sort of like A Sun That Never Sets and other new albums, but has a very new feeling to it that makes it very identifiable as one of their most recent efforts. There are a lot of atmospheric moments and it is another solid entry into the band’s discography.
The musicianship is rather stellar with great sounding guitars that are modern and powerful and wonderful vocals from Steve Von Till that are extremely solid. The band has learned from past efforts and put a production job that is top notch and quite splendid to listen to. The entire affair is a nicely put together work that is accessible and deep at the same time.
The flaw to the album lies in how it is not as strong as A Sun That Never Sets or The Eye of Every Storm and comes up a bit short in terms of producing a moody atmosphere to those albums. There is still a very poignant mix of post metal and atmospheric elements to create an album that is memorable and powerful.
This is one of the better albums of Neurosis and a fairly powerful listen. The production is solid and makes the album poignant and powerful. There are a number of solid moments and this is one of the better albums from the band. Fans of their better albums will be pleased with how this album is put together and performed.
