Review by Adam M on August 21, 2024.
This was a brutal and technical death metal album that had more style than substance. There are brutal riffs that stun with their brutality. There are a variety of factors at play with this album. The atmosphere is dark and thick and livens up things. The songs feature a punishing vibe that is hard to match for a great brutal death release and there is a great deal of versatility shown. Like Sulphur Aeon the object is to display technical wizardry without being overly indulgent. The speed of the songs is vibrant and exciting. There is also an accessible aspect to the music and this leads to versatility.
In terms of musicianship, the guitars paint a dark picture in fine fashion. The drums form a nice backdrop to the music. The musical performances are well-rounded and come together nicely. The entire thing makes for an exciting listening experience. In terms of downsides, the songwriting could have been a bit better. The musical performances make this an invigorating listen, though it should be more interesting than it is. Also, there could be more innovation. The whole disc is interesting enough, but could be made more so. The vocals are somewhat one-dimensional. The entire affair is a solid work, but still a step down from Sulphur Aeon's material.
With a nice variety of musical ideas and a crushing dark atmosphere, the band is very promising. This is definitely one of the best death metal albums of 2024. It is a punishing and impressive display of death metal bliss. Fans of the genre will be well-served to check this out.
