Those of more delicate tastes might get fussy over the fact that this is one of those releases that sounds familiar all the way through, but me, being this total musical neanderthal, I can totally get behind this. Mostly because of exactly those traits. Look at it like this: haute cuisine cooking can be interesting and high-brow, and all that, but a simple plate of French fries goes in best, if you know what I mean.

Genocidal Rites delivers their style completely by the book here. If you're familiar with the works of bands like Diocletian, Black Witchery, Necroholocaust, or Blasphemophagher, then you've got a solid grip on what Genocidal Upheaval Of Subservient Abrahamic Law has to offer. This highly charged offering of black/death metal mayhem is spurred on by guitars that sound like chainsaws working their way through tree trunks made of reinforced concrete while being attacked by a savagely executed percussive hailstorm raining down on the faithful, over which a possessed doomsday prophet is barking gargled commandments at any horrified bystanders. There's nothing even remotely sweet or subtle about any of this, as expected, depending solely on the brute force and deranged power that music like this naturally emanates, making for one hell of a solid chunk of sonic terror chucked straight into the face. It isn't all frothing at the mouth insanity all the way through, though. In 'Order Of the Most Profane' we get a short keyboard/organ drone providing a bit of breathing space in the maelstrom, the intro to 'Ritualistic Invocation Of Blaspheric Annihilation' crawls up on the listener using these weird, somewhat psychedelic guitar noises setting up the suckerpunch about to follow, while throughout the runtime, short, slower sections come trickling through the carnage on offer. Variation isn't that high on Genocidal Rites' to-do list, but it is there, even if it's being served up in minute portions.

Production-wise, this is a decent enough offering. Nothing spectacular, but getting the job done with enough space for all instrumentation to get a spot, and most importantly, not skimping on that savage power that a war metal release needs to ooze to truly come across convincingly. In short, what else do you want from a release like this?

There's nothing intricate about this album in any way, simply relying on brute force and aural terror to get the message across. Granted, this stuff sounds just like a lot of other contenders in the war metal genre, but frankly, I couldn't care less about any of that. Genocidal Upheaval Of Subservient Abrahamic Law has enough unhinged power and fury emanating from it to effortlessly convince any and all into the genre, and isn't that what this stuff is supposed to be all about in the end?
