Reanimated from Germany spawned their first musical output with Vomit The Plague. What we get to hear on that about 20 minutes lasting EP is some old school death metal in the vein of Cannibal Corpse (with Corpsegrinder), Monstrosity or Immolation. The band itself describes their vision of their music as "a horde of death metal heads who worship the brutal god of the rotten". Wow, this is quite a promise, so can they keep that?
Well, the intro "Rebirth" starts promising with some tortured souls screaming out in pain and with "Infant Decapitation" they deliver what the death metal fan wants to hear. Typical staccato-like Cannibal Corpse riffs and drumming combined with deep growls and high-pitched screams, that's quite okay. The technical aspect isn't neglected either, this all sounds quite well performed and not too chaotic.
Also Vomit The Plague comes along with a lot of brutality but here the guys (who play or have played in the black metal band Dark Horizon) sometimes throttle down the tempo a little bit and show some more melodic parts, too. Especially the creeping bass lines with the pounding drums sound quite threatening and very sinister.
"The Extinction" starts with some sirens and machine gun fire and lasts very long (over two minutes). Maybe they could have shortened that a little bit to tighten the song. After that they perform the catchiest song on the album which again sounds very much like Cannibal Corpse. Although it is very fast, there is some time for grooves and a cool guitar solo.
Closing the album with "Flesh Collector" that goes a little bit more into grindcore with the guitar work, they have put the shortest song to the end of that EP. Lasting 2:36 minutes, this is the most compact and interesting one because of the diversity of it.
The production turned out very well and if you consider that it was produced by no other than Andy Classen at Stage One Studio this shouldn't be the biggest surprise.
Vomit The Plage doesn't reinvent the wheel nor is it something innovative for death metal but a nice, entertaining EP for people who like the mentioned bands. Although Reanimated still cannot keep up with the huge role models, you might keep an eye on the band, this might be some kind of newcomer that can have a great future.
