Hi folks, it's jester alarm again. The guys of Gama Bomb spend us another little portion of their art. A Coffin For Christmas reflects their kind of humour again and the musical content offers more speed and, well, let's say more funny aggression than their last full-length, the slightly disappointing Bats. Philly's vocals are adventurous as always and the guitars have this light-footed but still quite sharp appearance that has become a trademark of the band.
When it comes to Gama Bomb, we usually get a conventionally designed track and "A Coffin For Christmas" marks no exception. The verses are straight and driven by cool guitar lines, the bridge increases the tension and the chorus delivers the more or less catchy element. Its high-pitched vocal lines are pretty hard to endure, but we have to consider that Philly just does what a Philly has to do. Naturally, an instrumental part is also integrated and so an agile solo guitar flies through the song and my living room for 25 seconds.
It goes without saying that the absolutely coherent song comes with a typical Gama Bomb production and that its video is full of hilarious nonsense. Summing up, the track cannot fully compete with the other stand-alone song of the band ("Living For The Lockdown"), but it is also far from being a disappointment - and maybe it even sends greetings to King Diamond's "No presents for Christmas". So we receive a welcome sign of life and simply a good addition to the band's catalogue, nothing more, nothing less. I hope the next jester alarm is not long in coming.
