While I was reviewing Sonata Arctica’s MCD called "Successor" I didn’t know their previous release but I was so impressed with their musicianship that I promised to add "Ecliptica" to my CD collection as soon as possible. And what can I say? Here it is and I’m overwhelmed. It exceeded my bravest expectations.

Excited, energetic, powerful, with a bright spark in young eyes. Those adjectives can sum it up. When you listen to this CD, not notes, but the joy of life and happiness is coming out of the speakers. You will hear the excitement and love for the music, you’ll see the most beautiful place on earth where these young men will take you on a tour through their paradise.

I still can’t believe that this work of art came from guys that are 20 years old on average. There is so much variety in their compositions that many bands with years of music experience could learn a lot from those youngsters. Most of the tracks are delivered with a melodic-fast-heavy punch with a couple of excellent ballads to give you some room to breath. The amazing range of Tony’s vocals, Jani’s shredding guitar solos and intense rhythms combined with Tommy’s solid drumming and Janne’s bass work make this band surprisingly polished considering their young age. Sonata Arctica is definitely one of the best newcomers on the melodic power metal scene.

Bottom Line: Keep in mind that I’m not even a power metal fan, so if you are, Sonata Arctica’s "Ecliptica" will be one of yours best CDs ever.
