Frothing as a band has been quite interesting ever since its conception, given that this album was conceived on a jam session and the connection to other projects from one Popu and Timo Straßenwürger. About the vocalist, this is their first work aside from another joint project with Popu, Kain Bairn. Despite that, their vocals are some of the best I've heard in this genre.
Now, that was a little info on the band, but what about the music? Frothing play a very caveman style of brutal death metal, which is made quite obvious by the vocals and lack of lyrics. I don't mean that in a negative way; they are very good.
Instrumentation-wise, the drums are a big highlight for me. Judging by some of the footage of the aforementioned jam session, Timo is a very versatile and adaptive drummer, which is displayed very well here. Due to the nature of this being an improv album, some tempo changes are to be found in almost every song, and he adapts to them very well. That aside, their tone goes damn hard considering the improv album aspect. The mixing/production in general is quite good, as can be expected from Popu.
Guitar-wise, almost all the riffs have a very dark and evil tone to them, as is usual with Popu. Both guest solos on here are exactly what you'd expect from the people who made them. I've not had much experience with Max Svalgard's way of writing, but Alice Simard's is very familiar. That, combined with all the other things I've mentioned, makes it stand out far more than just being a decent brutal death metal album. The vibe is dark, evil, yet all that makes it all the more comforting to me.
Overall, I highly recommend this album to anyone a fan of brutal death metal because this is about as good as it will get.
