Raw Addict has its bar set high for me, largely due to the absurdity present on this EP of a blistering twelve minutes. This is their rawest work, trailed closely by their split with Fleshhoot. What truly clicks for me, though, is its subtle groove heard on tracks such as 'Ingest To Infest' and 'Raw Addict' -- the China cymbal is abused even by the band's standards to create a near indecipherable drone, but a groove emerges nonetheless. 'Writhing Vomit' is perhaps (one of) the crowning moments on this EP due to maintaining this aforementioned groove, but also its cool blast patterns that come off as even more pummeling than the rest of the EP. 'Ingest To Infest' remains perhaps my favorite Raw Addict song.
I'm unsure about the nitty-gritty classification of this EP -- could be mincegore, goregrind, whatever. I've always viewed Raw Addict as a band that can at least wade in the mincecore style quite well due to its punchy snare and groove that isn't traditional for goregrind. This EP is an excellent display of this. Above all else, Raw Addict understood the assignment for creating its first EP as a fledgling band using its prior demos as a prototype. I wasn't actually rocking with these demos, but my point is that they took the next logical step of brutality and did so without forfeiting the rawness present on their demos -- instead, they threw in concision and punctuality. Raw Addict is good at these stylistic transitions, which is evident by their seamless switch to a "cleaner" sound for Swarm Decomposition that still sounds amazing. It may be a stretch to call these guys genre-bending, but this EP is a prime example of their seasoned ability to incorporate different gory elements from across the board.
