This was a good album that introduced the world to a new era of Tom G. Warrior type material. It has a dark tone and some epic song-writing that is very dark and has a nice epic feel to it. Songs like the opener “Goetia” make their mark and have a lasting impact. This is an outstanding effort that fuses the best of Celtic Frost with an epic and dark new dimension.
The musicianship is solid with grimy and evil guitars penetrated by some of Warrior’s best vocals. Crisp production helps the songs out and makes them interesting. There is a thoughtful feel to the tracks that makes them compelling. The entirety of the musical performances is great and makes the album stand out.
The problem I’m having with the album is that the following one, Melana Chasmata improves upon it and makes the band even better. There is a feeling of incompleteness after listening to the album and this would be improved on the following release. The music is good and heavy, but the following album would have more memorable tracks.
This is a great album and the dawn of a new era for the band. They have not released material for a while and it would be nice to see them follow up classics like this with new material. There is a lot to like here and this makes for an exciting listen.
