Doom Metal is an art form. How else can you describe it?. Slow melodies seem to have more trouble keeping fuck-ups from happening where speed metal sometimes you can hide it from the masses. It is based upon the pure feel and talent of it. That is where Lacrimae Mortalium shines.

Sung entirely in french (except for a few short words here and there in English), this Canadian band seems to have hit on the right formula for Doom Metal. Sounding like a combination of Candlemass, Novembers Doom and even a little feeling of Cradle Of Filth with harsh and massively powerful Death Metal vocals overtop of it all, it is hard not to enjoy down tempo might that they have. Being sung in french, makes the feel even more evil for some reason.

Every song is perfect in form and feel, and adding in some of the most enjoyable production as well makes this album stand out as a perfect Doom record. It is dank, evil filled and sardonic. A perfect melding into unspeakable unholy strains that send you into the pits of brimstone and pain. Even if you do not speak a word of French. That is the truest form of music.

Only the Swedish Doom masters Candlemass have made a better albums in this genre of Metal, and that is saying volumes to the talent this Quebec based band has. Lacrimae Mortalium are the ones to watch and to enjoy as well. Guess you need to go and buy the album. I go for a beer now. My job is done.
