This is the first full-length from Phoenix-based Hemoptysis. The style is pretty straightforward- Thrash Metal with guitar goodies around every corner that somehow manage not to sound like they tried to overstuff the songs, topped off with a clean and gritty, powerful rasp to narrate their tales of horror and desperation. It sounds standard, but there’s a unique feeling to all of this. The songs have that “journey” feeling, like you’re riding through them rather than merely feeling their emotional tones. Anger, frustration, and triumph are conveyed through Hemoptysis’s most excellent songwriting and execution. I feel this band would continue to get better and better over time as I sense quite a bit of talent and dedication here. Just listen to the guitars- they’re constantly bubbling over with creativity, like the multifarious plotline of some never-ending vision quest.
