This is actually a relatively straightforward death metal work. It recalls the likes of Behemoth
, but never actually approaches the quality of that band. The reason is because the music lacks the intense tightness of Behemoth
. While this is reasonably well performed, it doesn’t have enough of a push to elevate it a bit. Instead the somewhat evil approach staggers forward with some momentum, but not as much as one would hope for. The band is commendable for using some grimy sounding riffs at times, which adds an atmospheric aura to the work. This can be seen from the tracks 'The Branch Of Cool Frogeny' or 'The Symphony Of Demonic Sounds'.
The sound is at times interesting, but the outfit becomes less compelling as the work progresses. When they do find a neat riff the band is better, but they are unable to maintain their peak for a long period of time. This leads to music that has some drive at times, but never really becomes particularly interesting. The band perhaps needs more fire to craft innovative ideas, but that would take them to the next level. They’re just a step short of being a really great Death Metal band and will have to suffice with being a good one.
There’s a reasonable amount of passion to be found on "Demonic Verses"
, but not enough to create an excellent Death Metal album. There’s some quality stuff to be found here, but I hope for big improvements in the future. As it stands, "Demonic Verses
" gets a mild recommendation at best.
