Live Review - Scorpions, Thundermother - Westfalenhalle Dortmund - 05/14/23
The evening begins with a well-filled Westfalenhalle, I think that the concert was sold out and my biggest concert so far, where I may stand in the photo pit. I must say that I was quite excited because of the approximately 15000 people in the background. However, the audience was still very reserved for the likable Swedes from Thundermother, who were allowed to open for the Scorpions on this tour and also play their own tour (the day before they were still on tour in Switzerland), only in front of the stage the four girls were celebrated. Their entertaining hard rock/ heavy metal was apparently too much for the somewhat older audience. However, I enjoyed the ten songs they played a lot and Thundermother seemed to have a lot of fun as well, because their stage show was very playful and full of movement and again and again singer Linnéa Vikström tried to involve the audience. This was a great show, which deserved more enthusiasm from the Dortmund audience.
Setlist: 'Loud & Free' / 'Try With Love' / 'Hellevator' / 'Dog From Hell' / 'Into The Mud' / 'I Don't Know You' / 'Whatever' / 'Shoot To Kill' / 'Watch Out' / 'Driving In Style'
After a changeover break it was finally time for the Scorpions, who were frantically celebrated by the audience. Beside old classics like 'Rock You Like A Hurricane', 'Blackout' or the meanwhile dead used 'Wind Of Change' (but today in a Ukrainian language version) the current album Rock Believer was clearly in the focus of the show. But that's understandable and since the album is pretty cool back to the roots, not wrong. However, I would have liked to see some classics from the Taken By Force record. I was surprised how agile Klaus Meine and Co still are, because the gentlemen ran permanently over the rather large stage and showed hardly any signs of fatigue even after almost two hours of playing time. Also drummer Mikkey Dee is an absolute animal, it was pretty cool what the ex-Motörhead drummer delivered. By the way, you could watch the whole thing on two huge monitor screens, which also gave the audience in the very back of the hall a good visuelle show. In any case, the Scorpions convinced me that they can still sting for a long time, even if Klaus Meine sounded a bit off-key here and there.
Setlist: 'Gas In The Tank' / 'Make It Real' / 'The Zoo' / 'Coast To Coast' / 'Seventh Sun' / 'Peacemaker' / 'Bad Boys Running Wild' / 'Delicate Dance' / 'Send Me An Angel' / 'Wind Of Change' (Ukrainian Version) / 'Tease Me Please Me' / 'Rock Believer / 'New Vision' (Drum Solo) / 'Blackout' / 'Big City Nights' / 'Still Loving You' / 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'
