TOP 19 of 2019 - By Maciek
2019 is fast approaching the finish line and it's time for some year-end round-ups, but since we all have different music tastes and favorites, this year we're going to do this a little differently. Instead of one MetalBite year-end list, each of our staff members will present his own individual list based on his own criteria, preferences or whatever else stroke him fancy, we don't judge.
And without further ado, here's the Top 19 from Maciek.
19. Thy Art Is Murder - Human Target
18. Omophagia - 646965
17. Kampfar - Ofidians Manifest
16. Hecate Enthroned - Embrace Of The Godless Aeon
15. Gamma Sector - Sanctum Of Vivisection
14. Fractal Universe - Rhizomes Of Insanity
13. Flub - Flub
12. Fange - Punir
11. Entombed A.D. - Bowels Of Earth
10. Diabolical - Eclipse
9. Car Bomb - Mordial
8. Belzebubs - Pantheon Of The Nightside Gods
7. The Ansible - Forever
6. After the Burial - Evergreen
5. Vltimas - Something Wicked Marches In
While we are still waiting for some material to be recorded and released under I Am Morbid name, here's some proof that David Vincent is still one of the best growlers on this planet. But if you add his fantastic vocals to drumming skills of Flo from Cryptopsy and guitar as well as composing skills of Blasphemer you just get a combo that just had to work. This album is a real gem in category of breaking the boundaries between black and death metal. It is a perfect mixture of both and just because of these names working together you have to listen to it. No buts. Especially 'Last Ones Alive Win Nothing'.
4. Frantic Amber - Bellatrix
This band caught my attention because they used to be all-female band, playing quite technical death/thrash stuff. Now they decided to have a male playing drums. But that's not the only change in the band. They've gone into more melodic material and you can definitely hear how the band has developed technically. And I really mean it - all compositions are really well done, with very impressive guitar work, vocals and all compositions have definitely more to offer. Really impressive album, showing old-school death metal with quite a few melodic elements. And I've been told its Game of Thrones-related, so if you're a fan, here's a concept album for you. And if you're not, you can still enjoy it as much as I do.
3. Allegaeon - Apoptosis
Metal Blade Records are very lucky to have this band in their roster. Their style is described as technical melodic death metal but it's definitely much more. Most of all if you are looking for some guitar virtuosos this is the band to go to. 8-string guitars and mastery in riffs and really good solos, played in a style reminding 90s heavy metal. Really rich metal feast and in my opinion definitely topping their previous album.
2. The Machinist - Confidimus In Morte
This is another position here which is probably not clearly metal as they are apparently representants of hard-core scene from New York. But to be honest, I think this is very metal album, being very close to death metal. And it's got another female vocalist worth keeping eye on. Amanda's vocal skills are really impressive, you can hear some melodic clean vocals, but mostly her screaming/growling passages can make your jaw drop. And their video for 'No Peace' is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
1. Numenorean - Adore
Now this album is something that I would call "haunting". When listened from the start to the end in one go it always leaves me feeling as if I experienced something with quite a big charge of emotions. It's also not very easy to describe what kind of musical genre or subgenre it is. It's got some acoustic elements, some clean guitars building up atmosphere to either some proper black metal blast beats with shrieks or to some melodic death metal, or to almost rock and probably tens of other tiny flavours added to this mixture. This album is a surprise every 2 minutes when it comes to musical styles and structures. They constantly change, sometimes some melody line is carried through few styles, which shows how creative the band is. Certainly not boring album and if you enjoy all of the styles included here as much as me, it is a proper feast for your ears.
