TOP 19 of 2019 - By Fernando
2019 is fast approaching the finish line and it's time for some year-end round-ups, but since we all have different music tastes and favorites, this year we're going to do this a little differently. Instead of one MetalBite year-end list, each of our staff members will present his own individual list based on his own criteria, preferences or whatever else stroke him fancy, we don't judge.
And without further ado, here's the Top 19 from Fernando.
19. Idle Hands - Mana
18. Mork - Det Svarte Juv
17. Carnal Tomb - Abhorrent Veneration
16. Shadowmass - Shadowmass
15. Darkthrone - Old Star
14. Bewitcher - Under The Witching Cross
13. Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance
12. Kvelgeyst - Alkahest
11. Consummation - The Great Solar Hunter
10. Ultra Silvam - The Spearwound Salvation
9. Gaahls Wyrd - GastiR - Ghosts Invited
8. Venom Prison - Samsara
7. Mgła - Age Of Excuse
6. Concrete Winds - Primitive Force
5. Asagraum - Dawn Of Infinite Fire
These Dutch ladies have proven that they are more than just the novelty of being an all women black metal band, and have perfected their music to create one of the best black metal albums of the year. A devilish melting pot of classic Norwegian influences, a dash of progressive flairs and pure devotion to the genre are a clear sign of things to come for black metal, and with music this good, the future is in good hands.
4. Dawn Ray'd - Behold Sedition Plainsong
Out of Britain and with an anger towards fascism and apathy comes Dawn Ray'd, the band had already made themselves know back in 2017 but in 2019 they have finally mastered their craft and come up with an album that embodies their righteous fury and bitter melancholy, combining folk music and black metal with the spirit of punk, Dawn Ray'd push forward and raise their banners in the name of revolution and one of the best albums of the year.
3. Aoratos - Gods Without Name
Naas Alcameth has already left his mark in the US black metal scene but no one would've predicted that in 2019 he would release his darkest, most threatening and maniacal record yet and easily the best of his career. "Gods Without Name" embodies Alcameth's entire body of work, and succeeds in going to far darker places than his other projects did. Equal parts "Trve Kvlt" and with the panache of avant garde bands like Wormlust, Aoratos is indeed a force to be reckoned with.
2. Blood Incantation - Hidden History Of The Human Race
After successfully catapulting themselves into one of the 3 poster bands of the death metal revival scene of the 2010's, Blood Incantation pick up where they left off with "Starspawn" with the most bold and flamboyant death metal album of the year, a worthy follow up with all the wild and eccentric music experimenting from their debut dialed up to 11 and some of the most dynamic soundscapes in death metal. Blood Incantation are poised to become one of the greatest modern death metal bands.
1. Misþyrming - Algleymi
One of the most promising bands from the outstanding Icelandic black metal scene released the best album of the year, improving and refining everything that made their first album such a surprise while pushing the boundaries of their musical abilities. Without a doubt the best album of 2019 and easily a modern masterpiece.
